Planning

Setting Research

The setting of the movie is the present day. The boy almost ‘lives in the past’ in terms of his appearance and interests but the intro is still set in the year 2015.

The movie will make it quite obvious that it is set in the present day, when a viewer is watching they will know it is set in 2015.

The area where the protagonist, Skip, lives, is a working class area, and will be shown with different shots at the beginning of the movie, in order to set the scene.

One of the main settings shown in the opening of the movie is the forest that the boy goes in to in order to change clothes. To establish this area, there will be shots of the boy going through the entrance first, then shots of him actually inside putting down his bag and changing in to his 'new' (different) clothes, rather than his school uniform that he was in before. This setting has a sort of secret feel to it, and this is somewhere the boy can go to change clothes and get away from school.

When he comes out of the forest, the setting will revert back to his working class area, where there is now a car with another boy waiting for him. Now that the protagonist is changed out of his school uniform, he is able to leave school with the other boy to go elsewhere.

This setting is the final thing seen in the opening, as the car driving off will be the final shot.

Actor Research

  • "Character 1 (Protagonist) "Skip"

  • Played by Ryan Burns (me)
    • For our movie we decided to use me for the main character as the skinhead would have to act moody and rebellious and we thought this would suit me rather than Conor or Rudi
  • Wearing typical skinhead clothing:
    • A Polo-shirt (Fred Perry or Ben Sherman)
    • A flight or bomber jackets
    • Washed denim jeans
    • Dr. Marten shoes (high-tops)
    • Suspenders as a possibility
  • A skinhead, as the name suggests, has a shaved head. I will instead wear a hat as it is against the school uniform rules to have a fully shaved head.
  • I should act moderately on edge and quite aggressive.

  • Skip's friend "Cody"
    • Played by Rudi Magill
    • Wearing similar, but not the same. clothes as Skip
      • T-Shirt
      • Jeans
      • Bomber jacket
      • Trainers
    • Should act relaxed and organised when waiting for Ryan to show up (sitting on the front of the car, waiting on the protagonist)
  • School kid extras (possible)
    • School uniform (different schools)
    • General chat with each other.
  • Brothers (possible)
    • The twin brothers (if included in the movie) will be wearing similar clothing to eachother.
      • A jumper
      • Jeans
      • Trainers
    • Should have similar hairstyles(tidy)
    • The brothers should act suspicious and slightly scared as they will be trying to light a cigarette and not want anyone to see.
    • The brothers will glance at Ryan as he walks past the first time but will stare at him as he walks past the second time in his regular, skinhead clothes.
    • They should act and confused to why he isn't wearing his uniform and why he is walking away from the bus stop.

Costume Research

For the protagonist, he will be dressing like a skinhead. In order to dress like a skinhead, we will need:

          • A Polo-shirt
A polo-shirt would have been a typical top to wear for skinheads. Skinheads from the 70's, right up to modern day skinheads wear polos.
We have a black Fred Perry polo shirt for our actor to wear in our movie.

            • A Bomber Jacket
Bomber jackets are a common choice for skinheads.
We have acquired a khaki green bomber jacket for our actor to wear in our movie.

  • Bleached Denim Jeans
Skinheads usually wear bleached denim jeans. Because of this, we have bleached some of our own jeans and will use them for our movie.

            • Dr. Martens High-Top Boots
The typical skinhead shoe is the Dr. Marten. This is why we have decided to use these in our film.

Script

There is no direct dialogue in our movie opening, only voice over by the main character at two points in the opening in order to give some context.

Time = 0:15 Minutes
Main character narrates: "I just want you to understand school's not for everyone. I only go to school to keep my ma quiet. Let's see how today goes."

Time = 1:20 Minutes
Main character narrates: "So as you can probably guess, I didn't go to school today. In fact, I have better places to be."

Location Research

The movie will be filmed in Crumlin, Antrim. The protagonist's street will be filmed in Orchard Road, in a council estate. The boy will leave his street, then go down the side to a forest in order to change in to new clothes.

This is the forest where it will be filmed, Crumlin Glen. In the movie it will be beside the street but in reality it is moderately far away.
When the boy returns to the street after the forest, there will be a car parked in the street to drive the boy away. He goes a different route in his street to get to the car.

Props Research

We will need a schoolbag filled with clothes - expected by the viewer to be filled with books for the boy to start his day at school.

If the two brothers are included in our movie, we will need a cigarette for the two brothers to attempt to light while the protagonist walks past them on his way to the bus stop.

We will need a car for the boy to drive. The car we plan to use for our movie is Conor Boyle's, the only member of our group who can drive. Conor's car is a Mazda 2 so this will be the car in the movie.

Conor is the only one who can drive, but he is not an actor in our movie, instead he will operate the camera while Rudi and I are onscreen, and then when the car must be driven - it will look like Rudi is driving, but instead it is Conor with Rudi now on the camera.

Shooting Schedule
Our shooting schedule is shown below, this is when we will be recording, what we plan to do when recording, and what we need in order to record.

Allocations of Roles and Responsibilities

Ryan Burns (Me)
I am playing the protagonist in the movie, so my main role is to be an actor. I have the responsibility of showing up whenever the group needs to film. I will also be the main editor on the movie's opening.

Rudi Magill
Rudi is playing a secondary character in the opening - the person who is going to drive Skip to somewhere other than school.
Conor Boyle
Conor will be the main operator of the camera, and also the actual driver of the car. In the movie, it will be Rudi's character driving the car, but in reality Conor is driving because Rudi cannot drive.

Could we be at Risk When Filming?
